چکیده
Background Clinical studies indicate that traumatic brain injury (TBI) is linked to an increased risk of dementia during life. However, involving neuropathologically-confirmed cases have shown conflicting results. This study was aimed at assessing a large bank cohort identify any association between TBI and the presence pathologies underlying most commonly found dementias, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) Lewy body (LBD). Method 636 were assessed for this (average age 76.2). Cases with history identified using donor records held Sydney Brain Bank. We use term "TBI” include single or multiple TBIs, as well repetitive mild neurotrauma may be subconcussive (N = 109). Amyloid plaque alpha synuclein by immunohistochemistry. Neurofibrillary tangles modified Bielschowsky silver staining. Pathology according current neuropathological diagnostic criteria. Multivariate regression statistics used assess effect TBI, gender on amyloid (A score), neurofibrillary (B score) pathology stages. Multinomial logistic examine pathological diagnosis. Results not significantly associated (p 0.05) stages 0.65), however odds having higher tangle stage 75% in group 0.009)(Figure 1). Gender significant predictor 0.29), 0.89) 0.15). Not unexpectedly, AD pathologies, including <0.0000001) 0.00002) stages, although driver 0.1). There no overall diagnosis neuropathologic change LBD 0.12). Conclusions In elderly neurodegenerative cohort, remains factor AD, but pathology. did these cohort. increase frequency tangles, suggesting abnormal tau protein accumulation following important long-term consequence contribute poor aging future neurodegeneration.
